This was taken 1.5 weeks after the initial surgery. I can walk with a brace, but short distances. Still can’t exercise like I want. Still on light PT and several short walks every day. Most of the incision is closed up at this point. Couple scabs left. Very little swelling.

The big bump at the top of the incision where they finished closing I am told and should “soften” in a couple months time. From the side it looks crazy, don’t have a pic of that, but I’ll get one today. I call it the “Little Shark Fin” as a joke. It really is crazy looking and hope it goes down a lot. Slightly vain.

Couple days after the surgery, the long incision is where the anchors, screws and rods are located. The other, I like to call the “Exit Wound”, is where the “drain” was. I guess they do enough damage internally, that there is bleeding that needs to come out.

At the point this is taken, I think I was starting to walk again. The jammy bottoms are on, so that means the catheter was out. They had me walking the day after the surgery, but only got a few feet before I started to get dizzy and had to be put back in bed.

This is my lower lumbar region. L-3 through L-5. Doc couldn’t find the pick with the rods that link the three anchors on each side. Bummer. This is the result of years of bad decisions. Jumping off things, Skating pools, big wave surfing, carrying thing way too heavy for one person, etc. I was saddened to find out I, in fact, am not Superman.

Six weeks of general bed rest. Light PT.

If this is on your “bucket list” then you really need to get to re-evaluate yourself. Honestly, are you so ashamed of your body that you can’t swim naked? What the hell is wrong with you? Oh!
